Janitor

Location: Catholic Community Services of Utah, 242 W Paramount Ave SLC UT 84115

Status: Non-exempt, Full-time, temporary with health insurance

Salary: $12-14/hr DOE

Catholic Community Services of Utah provides help and creates hope for thousands of people of all beliefs who are most in need in our community through Migration and Refugee Services, Homeless Services and CCS of Northern Utah programs.

Job Description:

This position will perform daily maintenance of buildings, property, and equipment of Gail Miller Resource Center. They will coordinate with Advantage Services to ensure proper cleaning, inventory control, and facility maintenance are carried out according to agency procedures through a Trauma Informed lens.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate with Advantage Services team.
  2. Ensure proper ordering and inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment used for cleaning and upkeep.
  3. Sweep and mop floors in the facility.
  4. Clean urinals, toilets, and showers.
  5. Clean debris from the yard and empty trash cans.
  6. Regularly provide constructive feedback during staff meetings.
  7. Manage donation operation including inventory, storage, and issue.
  8. Communicate regularly with maintenance office to inform of issues, request advanced repairs, and keep up to date on facility maintenance.
  9. Identify, prioritize and perform maintenance, repair, and general custodial and trades duties such as inspections, cleaning, and general facility maintenance as needed.
  10. Ensure equipment and tools are in good working condition. Identify and request tool and equipment repair or replacement.
  11. Keep ground presentable year-round including weeding, snow removal, power washing, and general upkeep.
  12. Maintain a clean and safe environment on entire property.
  13. Other duties as needed.

 

Work Environment inside/outside, office, warehouse, noise, temperature, etc.

  1. Work outside during the cold winter months and warm summer months.
  2. Operate loud yard and snow removal equipment.
  3. Clean up of human biohazard materials, vomit, excrement, soiled clothing, and blankets.
  4. Properly dispose of drug paraphernalia when found.

Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting and driving

  1. Ability to move around a large room and yard frequently each hour.
  2. Ability to work on feet for extended hours.
  3. Ability to lift heavy objects.

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  1. Experience supervising the work of others and the ability to enforce standards.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively.
  3. Flexible and able to problem solve.
  4. Ability to handle difficult situations from a Trauma Informed perspective.
  5. Driving as needed to pick up supplies and other errands.
  6. Must possess the personal qualities of integrity, compassion, and empathy, which encourage the trust and confidence of others.

Education, training and or experience:  

  1. GED or high school diploma.
  2. General maintenance and janitorial skills and experience. 

Background Screen/BCI requirement

  1. Must be able to pass a national FBI/BCI background check.

Licenses, certifications and credentials

  1. None required.

Position status and expected schedule  

  1. 40 hours per week Friday through Tuesday, 6 am 2:30 pm. Flexibility needed to cover other shifts occasionally.
