Job Description:

The case manager position provides core services to new arrivals, and helps clients develop a plan and set goals that work towards self-sufficiency during their first two years in the U.S. in the areas of health, employment, finances, education, housing, family, and community. Assume primary responsibility for ensuring the service delivery system is responsive to all the needs of each refugee client during the service period. Provide case management services as outlined in the R&P Cooperative Agreement, Match Grant Guidelines, and the TANF/ORR Extended Case Management Scope of Work.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Follows six steps of resettlement case management when completing all major responsibilities.
    1. Intake/Assessment
    2. Planning
    3. Coordination of Services
    4. Follow-up Monitoring
    5. Case Advocacy
    6. Record Keeping
  2. Performs pre-arrival and core services including but not limited to airport pickup, home safety orientation, grocery shopping, application for social security card and public benefits at DWS, housing lease signing, utility setup. Help refugee clients develop skills in the areas of public transportation, budgeting and paying bills, home maintenance, ESL and public-school enrollment, housing applications and other areas.
  3. Coordinates resettlement plan, service integration, and agency collaboration to meet the needs of the refugee.
  4. Facilitates cooperation and coordination with community partners who can help clients meet their needs and reach their resettlement goals.
  5. Collaborates with the Volunteer Coordinator and volunteers directly, to utilize services of volunteers to best meet the needs of clients.
  6. Documents all case management services and interactions with clients in case notes and other required forms.
  7. Maintain case files in compliance with case management grants.
  8. Maintains financial responsibility of case by developing budgets with clients, instructing clients about financial responsibility and self-sufficiency.
  9. Attends regularly scheduled case management and staff meetings.
  10. Cooperates with job developers, youth services, health services, volunteer coordinator, and other CCS staff, state agencies, and other service providers, in providing reports, documents, and other paperwork.
  11. Provides interpretation and translation services as necessary.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment - inside/outside, office, warehouse, noise, temperature, etc.

  1. This position is in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  2. Some local travel is required.

Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting, and driving

  1. This is largely a sedentary role; however, it involves some filing. Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary
  2. This role includes driving locally.

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  1. Works independently in a safe and appropriate manner
  2. Demonstrates both problem solving and problem prevention skills
  3. Displays sensitivity to the needs of clients, client's families, visitors, co-workers, volunteers, and other persons with whom the employee may interact
  4. Recognizes time as a valuable resource and responds promptly to needs of clients, and co-workers
  5. Adheres to deadlines of CCS and other agencies
  6. Consistently performs work assignments in a time-efficient manner
  7. Proficiency in English oral and written communication
  8. Must maintain confidentiality regarding clients
  9. Proficiency in computer skills to maintain financial data, spreadsheets, database, scheduling, and e-mail in Outlook Office 365
  10. Personal qualities of openness and respect for co-workers and clients, with compassion and graciousness in helping clients to assess and face their situations, and to accept assistance
  11. Language proficiency strongly preferred in at least one of Farsi/Dari, Pashto, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, or Spanish

Education, training and or experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience
  2. 1+ years working as a case manager or similar
  3. Experience working with refugees, immigrants, or diverse populations

Background Screen/BCI requirement

  1. Must be able to pass BCI/FBI background check

Licenses, certifications, and credentials

  1. Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety and auto insurance requirements.

Position status and expected schedule

  1. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) and non-exempt position.
  2. Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, sometimes later than 5:00 pm when there is a night arrival.
