Position Title: Refugee Foster Care Therapist

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Full or part-time status: Flexible: One FTE that can be held by one full-time employee or two part-time employees.

Department: Migration and Refugee Services

Reports to: Bi-Lingual Clinician

Hiring Range: $53,000-$73,000/year DOE


  1. Primary Function of Position

To provide mental health services to refugee and immigrant foster youth and foster families. This can include group therapy, individual therapy for youth or foster parents, or family therapy.


  1. Major Position Responsibilities
  1. Develop a therapeutic relationship with youth in the Refugee Foster Care program
  2. Conduct mental health assessments upon arrival and every six months until discharge
  3. Provide one-on-one therapy for youth: assess, create treatment goals, and document progress
  4. Facilitate group therapy
  5. Provide family therapy with foster families
  6. Consult regarding placement decisions and crisis intervention
  7. Consult regarding the therapeutic level of care for foster families
  8. Attend training provided internally and in the community and apply newly gained knowledge in delivering services.
  9. Participate in weekly staff meetings
  10. Maintain the ability to be on-call as necessary.
  11. Maintain case files in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  12. Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

  1. Work Environment - inside/outside, office, warehouse, noise, temperature, etc.
  1. Therapeutic services will be flexible to meet the youth's needs and may include time in the office, the youth's home, school, or outside.

  1. Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting, and driving
  1. Work requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods, walk moderate distances, drive, and occasionally assist with physical activities such as helping to set up for an RFC event
  2. Driving is required for this position.

  1. Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities
  1. Works independently in a safe, appropriate manner
  2. Demonstrates both problem-solving and problem prevention
  3. Displays sensitivity to the needs of clients, client's families, visitors, co-workers, volunteers, and other persons with whom the employee may interact
  4. Recognizes time as a valuable resource and responds promptly to the needs of clients and co-workers.
  5. Consistently performs work assignments in a time-efficient manner. Adheres to deadlines
  6. Bilingual in English and another language that is spoken by clients (Spanish, Farsi, etc.) - oral and written communication proficiency
  7. Demonstrated ability to be flexible, creative, and able to work in a diverse setting
  8. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with clients to help them adjust to new life circumstances
  9. Must maintain confidentiality regarding client information
  10. Proficiency in computer skills to maintain case files, complete documentation, scheduling, and e-mail in Outlook and Excel

  1. Education, Training ,and Experience
  1. Master's degree in social work or counseling from an accredited university
  2. LCSW Certification with at least 2 years of experience required
  3. Familiar with and supportive of the mission of Catholic Community Services of Utah and the vision of the Catholic Church articulated by the diocesan bishop
  4. Demonstrated familiarity with trauma-informed treatment modalities
  5. Experience with teenagers, attachment, gender-based violence, and the refugee and immigrant community strongly preferred

  1. Background Screen/BCI requirement
  1. Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.
  1. Licenses, certifications, and credentials
  1. Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements.

  1. Position status and expected schedule
  1. Full time, 40 hours.
  2. The general schedule will consist of 40 hours to be worked between Monday and Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 8:00 PM. Occasional weekend hours will be needed for emergency response.
