Position Title: Job Developer - Swahili-Speaking

Hiring Range: $17.00-$22.00/hr DOE

Primary Function of Position

Catholic Community Services has an exciting opportunity for a compassionate, committed individual to assist refugees in preparing for and securing employment. The primary function of the position is to help refugees become self-sufficient by assessing, training, and orienting them to the employment process. Networking with potential employers and maintaining relationships with them is an essential responsibility that supports the primary function.


Major Position Responsibilities

  1. Participate in assessing each refugee adult client's work history, skills, career goals, and job readiness.
  2. Mentor each adult client through job readiness training, learning about US employment procedures, and upward mobility once a client is working.
  3. In close coordination with case managers, design employment plan, follow-ups, service integration, and agency collaboration to meet the needs of each client. Help clients work toward their employment goals while finding employment that helps them become financially self-sufficient.
  4. Network with employers for new employment and training opportunities.
  5. Assist clients with application processes including creating resumes.
  6. Arrange interviews for employment placement. Provide transportation and interpretation for the interview, orientation, and first day of employment. Follow up with both the client and employer after initial employment to ensure the satisfaction of both parties.
  7. Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports in compliance with regulations of the program.
  8. Schedule time and interviews for clients that comply with the benchmarks and regulations of program.
  9. Maintain timely and accurate case notes and other case file documentation.
  10. Cooperate with case managers and other CCS staff, state agencies, and other service providers as necessary, in providing reports, documents and other such paperwork.
  11. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  1. This position is in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  2. Some local travel is required.

Physical Demands

  1. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
  2. This role includes driving locally to apartment complexes and meetings.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  1. Excellent business networking and English communication skills: verbal and written.
  2. Proficiency in computer skills, particularly Excel and Word, to maintain case files, complete documentation, schedule appointments and correspond using Outlook.
  3. Experience working with other cultures.
  4. Familiarity with local employment resources, training programs, and similar opportunities.
  5. Ability to work independently in a safe and appropriate manner. Problem-solving and problem-prevention skills.
  6. Able to be sensitive to the needs of clients, clients' families, visitors, co-workers, volunteers, and other people with whom the employee may interact.
  7. Recognize time as a valuable resource and respond promptly to needs of clients, and co-workers. Consistently perform work assignments in a time-efficient manner. Adhere to deadlines.
  8. Must maintain confidentiality regarding clients.
  9. Personal qualities of openness and respect for co-workers and clients; and compassion and graciousness in helping clients to assess and face their situations and accept assistance.

Education, Training and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  2. Prior case management or job development experience is preferred.
  3. Ability to speak Swahili, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Tigrinya is preferred.

Background Screening Requirement

  1. Must pass national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, certifications and credentials

  1. Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements.

Position status and expected schedule

  1. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position.
  2. Office hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
