Location: Catholic Community Services of Utah, 437 West 200 South, SLC UT 84101

Status: Full-time, Temporary- 1 Year position (July 2018-July 2019)

Salary: VISTA members earn a pre-tax annual living allowance of $12,277.  At the completion of the one-year contract, the VISTA member can choose between an end of service cash stipend of $1800 or a $5,920 education award. Westminster and the College of Eastern Utah offer educational benefits to qualified AmeriCorps students.  

Catholic Community Services of Utah provides help and creates hope for thousands of people of all beliefs who are most in need in our community through Migration and Refugee Services, Homeless Services, and CCS of Northern Utah programs.

VISTA Member Activity Description:

To improve volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention practices.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Review current volunteer positions and recruitment strategies.
  2. Identify and assess current sources of volunteers.
  3. Identify untapped sources of new volunteers and develop partnerships.
  4. Improve training protocols for volunteers.
  5. Review and asses current volunteer database event descriptions.
  6. Create and administer surveys to gain feedback from current volunteers.
  7. Analyze results of volunteer surveys.
  8. Assist and collaborate in training staff on new methods and database.


Work Environment 

  1. Inside, loud noises occasionally.


Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting and driving

  1. Sitting for hours at a time.


Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities

  1. Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  2. Attention to detail and accuracy.
  3. Strong communication skills, written, and oral.
  4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly in English to describe and market the program.
  6. Advanced word processing and computer skills required. Applicants should not require training in how to operate Microsoft Word or Excel and it is preferred that applicants be able to demonstrate a basic familiarity with Access.
  7. It is preferred that applicants be able to demonstrate personal qualities of openness, compassion, and graciousness when helping clients assess and face legal obstacles.
  8. Must be able to demonstrate an ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client cases.


Education, Training and/or Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  2. Knowledge of relevant MS Office applications; Excel proficiency is mandatory and Access experience is preferred.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook.
  4. Keyboarding and data entry skills.
  5. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.


Background Screen/BCI requirement

  1. Must Pass BCI/FBI background check.


Licenses, certifications and credentials

  1. None required.


Position status and expected schedule

  1. Full time Monday- Friday 8:30 am 4:30 pm.
